The Alternative Garden Tour - A Gardener’s Trail
The Carterton Indoor Community Pool Project Team is hosting the Alternative Garden Tour – A Gardener’s Trail on Saturday 24 October, 2026.
Featuring six extraordinary gardens within the Carterton district, the self-guided tour provides a unique opportunity to take a peek behind the garden gate of ordinary gardeners. Unlike most garden tours, participants can choose to visit one garden or all six and only pay $5 on each garden gate they visit.
The featured gardens include:
#1. 1 The Glade, Carterton 5713
A well-appointed large town garden.
#2. 9 Wyndham Street, Carterton 5713
A colourful and beautifully tended cottage garden in town.
#3. 51 Chester Park Drive, West Taratahi 5791
A well-designed large country garden with a water feature and rose pergola.
#4. 118 Chester Park Drive, West Taratahi 5791
Find the hobbit house hidden along a native walk within a QE2 block. Park at 51 Chester Park Drive.
#5. Hattenburn Gardens. 99 Hinau Gully Road, Carterton 5791
Features not only remarkable sculptures and artworks, but a food forest and a large vegetable garden. Cream teas available 10:30am-3pm.
#6. 138 Jervois Road, Dalefield 5791
A large bush garden and home to numerous Rhododendrons and Hydrangeas.
#7. Lavender Abbey. 351 Dalefield Road, Dalefield 5791
Lavender Abbey Farm will also be holding a special Gardener’s Trail Talk on growing lavender at 2pm. $10 donation to the Carterton Indoor Community Pool Project.
