Alternative Garden Tour fundraiser for Carterton Indoor Community Pool

The Carterton Indoor Community Pool Project Team is hosting the Alternative Garden Tour – A Gardener’s Trail on Saturday 24 October, 2026.

Featuring six extraordinary gardens within the Carterton district, the self-guided tour provides a unique opportunity to take a peek behind the garden gate of ordinary gardeners. Unlike most garden tours, participants can choose to visit one garden or all six and only pay $5 on each garden gate they visit.

The fundraising event aims to raise money for the Carterton Indoor Community Pool Project. “Over 350 kids use the community pool every week to develop confidence in the water and learn to swim,” explained Project Chair Catherine Rossiter-Stead.

“Without access to this pool, kids from across South Wairarapa and Carterton would not have the chance to develop these crucial skills that ultimately saves lives.

“In addition, the pool has over 100 recreational users that use the pool regularly to stay mobile, active and socially connected. Many of these users are from the older generation who would find travelling to Masterton extremely challenging.

“Sadly, the building is over 40 years old and is in dire need of a new building. The Project Team are working tirelessly to find an affordable and durable solution and is currently developing designs for a light weight retractable, translucent enclosure. Money from this fundraiser will help with developing these designs so the Project can move on to the next stage and closer to construction.”
